Lauric acid/Monolaurate |
Lauric acid (C12:0) is a fatty acid obtained from coconut oil. Research shows that lauric acid is the most anti-bacterial fatty acid. It is particularly active against gram-positive bacteria. These include: Streptococcus suis, Clostridium perfringens and Staphylococcus. Research has shown that free lauric acid in the gut is more effective than lauric acid in the form of triglycerides, as found in coconut or palm kernel oil. Lauric acid also occurs naturally in breast milk.
Monolaurate is the monoglyceride of lauric acid. This means that there is one lauric acid bound to a glycerol molecule. It appears that this type of lauric acid is antibacterial even stronger than lauric acid itself.
GreenForce is an optimal combination of lauric acid and monolaurate as a powder, and is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria. In practice there are good experiences with GreenForce in against streptococcal infections in piglets. Symptoms of streptococcal infections include meningitis, arthritis, sudden death (blood poisoning) and pneumonia. The use of GreenForce on such farms reduces the problems and limits the use of antibiotics.
