Mycotoxins are toxic substances produced by fungi. They are secondary metabolites secreted by moulds, mostly Penicillium and Fusarium and Aspergillus. Mycotoxins are produced in cereal grains, as well as forages before, during and after harvest in various environmental conditions.
The negative effects of mycotoxins range from poor production performance including weight loss, decreased growth, fertility problems and animal mortality.
